Description of Scholarship: The Nikolaos Simeon Memorial Honor Scholarship is being established by Simon and Maria Simeon in memory of their son Nikolaos “Nick” Simeon. Nick was born on January 3,1986 in Texas City, Texas. Nick was only 20 years old when he passed away in March 2006. Born into the Orthodox Christian faith, Nick developed an incomparable love for it. He served the church as an acolyte and was later tonsured a chanter. At the time of his death, the 2004 Clear Creek High School Summa Cum Laude graduate was living in Austin, Texas where he was attending the University of Texas. With aspirations of becoming a medical doctor, he was majoring in biochemistry and Spanish, where he maintained a 4.0 grade point average (GPA). After only two years in college, he was already classified as a senior. Nick was tragically killed in a car accident en route to Alpha Epsilon Delta’s (a pre-medical Honor Society) National Conference in St. Louis, MO. This scholarship gives priority to pre-med students; however, if there are no applicants who meet this criterion, the scholarship will be open to students in any other degree programs.

Eligibility Criteria

Eligibility criteria define which students will be eligible to apply or receive the scholarship:

Applicant and/or applicant’s parent(s) must be members of St. John the Theologian Greek Orthodox church and in good standing (to be verified by Church Treasurer);
Applicant must be a college or university student with a minimum of two full semesters completed of a four (4) year degree program;
Applicants must be scheduled for enrollment at a university or college and must be enrolled for at least 12 semester credit hours;
Applicant must have a cumulative GPA of 3.8 or higher;
Applicant must be 23 years of age or less

Scholarship Entry Deadline: November 30

Selection Criteria

Scholarship recipient will be determined by a Scholarship Board which will consist of the Simeon family and a minimum of three (3) St. John the Theologian Parish Council members.

Scholarship will be awarded on the closest Sunday to December 6^th (St. Nicholas Day)
